NOTES

  • Above photo was taken on the event of the May 27, 1937 Illukste High School field trip to the aerodrome. Letov S.16 visible in the foreground..
  • August - October, 1919 - Krustpils airfield was a base for Latvian aviation operations in the Latgale campaign.
  • April 16, 1920 - Janis Prieditis crashes Hannover CL.III #21 near Krustpils.
  • January 29, 1922 - B.Petersons crashes Rumpler #6 at Krustpils.
  • Dec 13, 1929 - P.Rucelis and E.Juergenssons suffer a fatal crash in Letov #52.
  • 1935 - the Krustpils chapter of the Latvian Aeroclub is founded.
  • July 26, 1936 - Aviation Festival
  • January 1937 - Krustpils Latvian Aeroclub (LAK) chapter announces a flying model construction course for the local youth. The course would be taught by Konstantins Zablockis and the students would form a local chapter of Aviation Pioneers. At the end of the season a flying model competition would be held.
  • February 1937 - Krustpils LAK chapter hosts an opera / variety night to raise funds for their projects. This was a particularly active chapter and, in 1937, it had 200 active members and a bank account with a balance over 5000 ls. In the summer of 1937 they began to build their first glider and had hopes of acquiring an aircraft from LKOD in 1938.
  • June 19, 1937 - the Aviation Festival scheduled for June 20 is cancelled on short notice - no reason given.
  • Aug. 30, 1937 - Bristol Bulldog crashes at Krustpils.
  • September 27, 1936 - the final waypoint of the first day of the first "Flight Around Latvia" competition.
  • Aug. 30, 1937 - Bristol Bulldog crashes at Krustpils.
  • September 26, 1937 - waypoint of the second "Flight Around Latvia" competition.
  • October 1, 1938 - the final waypoint of the first day of the third "Flight Around Latvia" competition. The aviators landed at the aerodrome, which was just over the Daugava (when approaching from the direction of Bauska) and they stayed the night, leaving the next morning for Daugavpils.
